Paul: 5 out of 5 Stars (4 June 2015) Sam: 4 and 3/4 out of 5 Stars (4 June 2015) *Parental Note: This review was dictated to dad and transcribed with 100% accuracy. Paul: This is something you don’t see very often... a great burger place in an old gas station? Yep! That’s right! An old Gulf gas station was turned into the best burger joint on Amelia Island... Tasty’s Fresh Burgers and Fries! It really lives up to its name. Well, anyway…I had the “Tasty With Cheese”… it is a quarter pound burger with everything but pickles…that includes onions, tomatoes, lettuce, cheese, and "Tasty's Sauce". The burgers are AMAZING. They are really juicy and they use the type of bread that our mom really likes. Our burgers were grilled to perfection. We ordered two different types of fries: "Seasoned Parmesan Fries" and "Old Bay Crabby Fries". The parmesan fries have sprinkled parmesan cheese on top of freshly cut french fries. They are really good. But now we get to the "Old Bay Crabby Fries". If you are wondering, the "Old Bay Crabby Fries" are seasoned with Old Bay seasoning and served with the most amazing tartar sauce you’ve ever had. I think they are delicious. The Old Bay seasoning give them a little bit of a kick….which I like. The logo looks like a Gulf gas station logo. And, it was obvious that we were sitting in an old gas station. While we were eating lunch, there were like eighteen log trucks that passed by on the street. It was really loud! After we finished eating, we drove down the road where they were going to see what was up. It turns out that we vwere just up the hill from a port. Not just any port… one right next to a paper mill! Mystery solved! Overall, Tasty’s is one my favorite burger joints and a place you should definitely go to if you are on Amelia Island! Sam: I got a the chili dog. We forgot what the actual name of it that was on the menu... but it was really good! I liked the "Old Bay Crabby Fries" better that the "Seasoned Parmesan Fries". The reason why I gave it 4 and 3/4 stars instead of five is because the chili dog was a little small for me. Our dad thought we might be near a paper mill... and WE WERE! Rock-Tenn is the name. One of the only paper mills still alive!* We saw a crane that we thought was loading the paper onto the ship. And it was going to different places to deliver. And I kept count of the log trucks that we saw. There were 34 of them! It was crazy! I really liked Tasty’s. And another thing I forgot to mention: There are really cool lights hanging above when you eat outside. And there are flowers, too! Again, I loved Tasty’s! *Parental note: This is Sam's loose interpretation of a portion of a brief history of Amelia Island that was printed on page 7 of Amelia Now: A Free Guide to Amelia Island (Summer 2015 Edition). We forgot to take pictures. These are pictures that dad found on the Internet.

4.75 out of 5 Stars (June 8th, 2013)Paul: Sliders is an awesome restaurant that is literally right on the beach! I loved the view of the ocean! They have a playground in the sand for kids and their own walkway to the beach. We sat outside on the second floor. They even have an elevator! They have an outside bar with music, which is very cool. Our server was very nice. He even brought a cup of ice for my brother's finger. Sam slammed his finger in the car door when we were going there. Oh, almost forgot to mention....the food is EXCELLENT! My family shared two different appetizers. We had the calamari and the fried pickles, which is their specialty. We loved the calamari because it was very tender and came with very good sauce that was drizzled on top. We did NOT like the fried pickles. The were WAY too salty. For my meal, I ordered the crab cakes with cole slaw and their "famous" pineapple casserole. The crab cakes were GREAT! They had tons of crab meat, and just enough breading - unlike other places where they put way too much breading and barely any crab. And the crab was super-fresh! The pineapple casserole was awesome - almost as good as my nana's. Sliders is one of the best places to eat that is right on the beach. We had a great time. Sam: I liked it because it had the playground. Click on the pictures for a bigger view.
5 out of 5 Stars (June 7th, 2013)Paul: Timoti's is the best seafood shack ever! First up, I got the fried clams and the catch of the day, which was cobia. The cobia was grilled. I liked it because it had a "kick". It was very fresh because they said that fishermen caught it locally. The fried clams were moist on the inside and crispy on the outside. The clams and the cobia came in a basket with curly fries, cole slaw, and hush puppies. The hush puppies were some of the best I have ever had. The seating was mostly outside, which is good for a seafood shack. We ate on a picnic table with fans blowing mist on us. They had this really cool shrimp boat play area with two floors! Sam and I played in it while we waited for our food...and after were done eating! Timoti's has very friendly service. I can definitely see why it was named of the best seafood dives in the whole United States! Sam: I got the fried shrimp basket. Yeah! Yeah! Good shrimp! I did not like the hush puppies, though. The shrimp boat was fun. 4 1/2 out of 5 Stars (June 4th, 2013)
Five out of Five Stars (June 3rd, 2013)Paul: Originally, we chose Pablo’s because “Pablo” means “Paul” in Spanish. But also because when we are at the beach, we want to eat seafood – but we also like Mexican food. So, we thought, “Hmm…maybe they have some seafood, but in a Mexican way.” For my appetizer, I had chips, salsa, and queso dip. The salsa didn't taste that spicy. It wasn't spicy at all, actually. The queso dip was warm, unlike some other places I've been where the queso dip was cold. The chips were surprisingly warm, which is a very nice feature. The chips were thick. Normally, chips are thin. So, whenever you dip them into queso, they break. Not the case here! For my entree, I had the Seafood Chimichanga with beans, rice, guacamole, and sour cream. It had crab, lobster, scallops, shrimp, and cheese in a burrito case thing. The crab was very soft, which I like. And it was also warm. All the seafood was very fresh. I could tell because fresh seafood is tender and juicy. The guy who served us came back on a regular basis to see us and ask us, “How’s the food?” and to give us more chips and salsa. He was very nice. The place was very clean and has a really nice, big bar with a super-lot of drinks, including 1800 Tequila! There was a painting on the wall that was actually one of the pictures that is in our art room at school! It’s called “Flower Girl with Lilies”. The bathrooms were surprisingly clean. In other Mexican restaurant bathrooms, they are normally like dirty and not cared about from the owners. You have to go to Pablo’s if you are ever in Fernandina Beach!! Sam: I had the burrito with beans and rice. It had chicken in it. I liked it a lot. In the bathroom there was a locker door, it was like a small rectangle and it had a window. And the stall had a window. It was cool. |
